The petals are actually modified leaves, called bracts, surrounding a cluster of 30 to 40 small green flowers. Pacific dogwoods bloom in April and May and the flowers can have anywhere from four to six bracts.

In British Columbia, "getting your dogwood" is slang for receiving your Grade 12 high school graduation certificate. The dogwood also appears in the logos of many provincial public services. The dogwood is also filled with rich symbolism in the Christian faith related to Easter.

So this gorgeous dogwood ornament is a great gift not only for Christmas and Easter, but also to commemorate graduation from high school, to show appreciation for teachers or nurses or any public servants in B.C., for flower lovers and gardeners or simply as a stunning addition to an all-white tree.
